COMMON QUESTIONS

How does someone volunteer for children’s ministry?

Each children's ministry volunteer is a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church, who has made a commitment to distinctive Christian living; and has been observed, interviewed by the children’s pastor, and screened prior to being placed in a classroom or nursery. Volunteers receive regular training and evaluations.

Will my kids be safe and secure?

Below are a few policies and procedures, followed by our volunteer team, which we trust will put you at ease:
     1) We require parental identification cards for adults who pick up young children from a Sunday school class or nursery.
     2) There are always at least two, and usually more, approved volunteers in every classroom setting.
     3) No child is ever allowed out of the line-of-sight of a volunteer.
     4) No unauthorized personnel are allowed to work with children.
     5) Our paging system allows our nursery caregivers to notify the parents of small children, if the need arises.

With the troubled people in today’s society, how does TBC work to create a safe environment?

Each week, our office staff screens the names of visitors and attenders against a national sex offender database. If someone happens to attend TBC with an offender background, the deacons, pastors, and several law enforcement personnel within the church are notified. The individual is then informed that he/she will be observed. In some cases, we have instructed individuals not to return to the campus, and have sought to minister to them in off-campus settings.

When can a child experience a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?

This varies with each individual child, depending upon background and learning experience. When a child expresses a desire to accept Christ as Savior, a trained children’s counselor thoroughly explains what the Bible says about salvation.

When can a child be baptized?

When a child has accepted Christ as Savior, they and their parents may speak with our This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. What about dedicating my baby to Christ?

Babies are definitely a gift from God! Baby dedication is a time for parents, who are members of Temple Baptist Church, to show to the Lord and to the church family that they are dedicating themselves to raising their new child for God. This event does not have a part in a child’s salvation, but is a meaningful memory for parents and children.

Are the children’s volunteers trained in mandatory reporting procedures?

Our leaders are periodically trained, for the purpose of reporting suspected child abuse. Over the years, we have worked regularly with the Denton County Department of Children and Family Services, to report suspected abuse.
