John Pettit

JR Pettit
Assistant Pastor

John Roy Pettit, III (J.R.) was born in Washington, Pennsylvania. His dad worked in a glass plant, and as plastics took over, glass plants began closing. Consequently, JR’s family moved quite a bit while he was growing up. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of nine during a Sunday morning service.

In September of 1996, J.R. began attending Hyles-Anderson College and working in many areas of the bus ministry. He also assisted staff members at the college. While there, he met Marianne Wallace. They were married in June of 2000. They now have two daughters, Calin and Morgan.

J.R. received his Bachelor of Religious Arts Degree from Midwestern Baptist College in Pontiac, Michigan in May of 2005.

J.R. began working at Temple Baptist Church in 1999, helping with grounds keeping; and as the Pastor’s Assistant, helping in any way possible. J.R. is also involved with the Jr. High and Varsity basketball teams at Temple Christian Academy. He has been the assistant varsity basketball coach for the past six years and is currently the golf coach, working with the team several days a week.

Two and a half years ago J.R. took over as the Seniors’ Pastor and started working directly with “The Best Years Club”, for adults over age fifty. He has seen its growth double in size and enjoys planning activities and doing events with them several times a month. Additionally, J.R. is the Bible Study teacher for the “Encouragers” class for senior adults, which meets each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. J.R. was recently able to take a small group to Israel, and is planning some other trips in the future!
